What exactly are container terminals?

The container terminal is a complex equipped with various modern technical facilities, including storage, administrative, and additional facilities, specializing in the problems of container arrival and departure, reloading, storage, and sorting services, as well as technical and commercial services.


Types of container terminals

Container terminals are classified as:

  • ✓ by type of vehicle, for example, railway - road;
  • ✓ depending on the type of cargo: for specialized or general cargo;
  • ✓ on the type of cargo flows: intended for internal transportation and for those that pass through the customs post.

In addition, the following types of container terminals are distinguished:

  • cargo, which performs the function of documenting cargo transportation;
  • cargo sorting – perform all the functions of cargo points, and also carry out sorting of transit containers, i.e. provision of warehousing services, as well as reloading from one container to another vehicle;
  • sorting terminals that sort transit containers.

Main functions of container terminals

Container terminals perform the following functions:

  • ✓ unloading/loading from containers into a vehicle;
  • ✓ provision of warehouse services in open areas;
  • ✓ loading containers on various vehicles,
  • ✓ registration of transport documentation;
  • ✓ technical examination of various vehicles, and containers;
  • ✓ maintenance and repair of containers, various structures, etc.
