Increased volume of cargo transportation between Russia and Belarus

The Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus are the EEC's two largest trading partners. An increase in the volume of cargo transportation between Russia and Belarus, as well as measures to stimulate the growth of cargo transportation between the two states, were discussed during the EAEU countries' intergovernmental meeting in August this year.

The dynamics of cargo transportation between Russia and Belarus are growing

The trade turnover between Russia and Belarus increased by 13% in the first half of 2022, thanks to the organization of transit deliveries of Belarusian export cargo through Russian territory. As a result, the volume of cargo transportation doubled between January and July of this year. Furthermore, we note that 2,240 organizations in Belarus have a Russian capital. Mineral fertilizers (12.28 million tons) and petroleum products are the most important Belarussian exports to Russia (16.88 million tons). The export of crushed stone increased nearly 7.5 times when compared to the first quarter of 2021. Gas silicate block deliveries increased 5.5 times, while cosmetics and tobacco product deliveries increased 4.5 times.

Measures to stimulate the growth of cargo transportation by the governments of the two countries

  • ✓ Modernization and expansion of transport infrastructure capacity.
  • ✓ Reducing transit costs.
  • ✓ Optimization of control over the movement of goods across the customs border.
