Features of the transportation of goods from Russia and the EAEU countries to Armenia

There is no need for customs clearance between the EAEU states for export to Armenia, however, there are a number of specific points that should be paid attention to.

Conditions for registration and transportation of goods between the EAEU and Armenia

Since Armenia is a member of the EAEU, it is not required to fill out a declaration or pay customs duties to export goods to the RA. However, due to the fact that Armenia has no common borders , one should cross the border of Georgia, which is not a member of the EAEU. The following formalities will be required at the border with Georgia. Starting from 2016, when carrying out cargo transportation to Armenia, the payment of VAT is required, which must be paid within 180 days from the date of shipment of the cargo. In this case, you will need to complete the following documents:

  • ✓ Foreign trade contract (copy);
  • ✓ shipping documents (act of unloading/loading, waybills);
  • ✓ for cargo, the total value of which exceeds 50,000 US dollars, the provision of a passport of the transaction is required,
  • ✓ a statement confirming the payment of taxes.

Difficulties of cargo transportation from the EAEU countries to Armenia

Despite the rather simple procedure for registering exports to Armenia, certain difficulties may arise when transporting goods: for the export of some types of goods, permits or licenses are required.

What changes are expected in the near future?

To date, the volume of cargo transportation from the countries of Russia and the EAEU to Armenia amounted to 10.4% (compared to the 2020 indicator of 4.2%). In the future, a significant increase in cargo transportation is expected, which, of course, will have a positive effect on trade relations between Armenia and Russia. In addition, in December 2021, an agreement will be signed on the application of digital management of cargo transportation between the EAEU states (the use of navigation seals to track cargo transportation in digital mode), which will simplify the process of cargo transportation, remove a number of existing barriers, and accelerate trade between countries. Digital control has several advantages:

  • ✓ minimization of the means of transport companies;
  • ✓ optimization and improvement of the efficiency of state control;
  • ✓ exclusion of repeated checks on the territory of the CIS;
  • ✓ optimization of customs clearance without reducing their efficiency.
